DARK MODE NOW AVAILABLE IN MICROSOFT EXCEL

Microsoft Excel for Windows now supports Dark Mode, a highly requested feature designed to reduce eye strain and improve accessibility. This feature darkens the entire sheet, including cells, providing a modern and visually appealing look.

Key Features:

  • Implementation: Dark Mode is a window view property, meaning no changes are made to the data model or persistence story. The first prototype was developed about a year ago by Tom Hoke.
  • Availability: This feature is rolling out to Beta Channel users running Version 2502 (Build 18508.20000) or later.
  • How to Enable: Users can enable Dark Mode by selecting the “Switch Modes” button on the View tab. To ensure compatibility, users should select the “Black” or “Use system setting” option under the Office Theme in the File > Account settings.
  • Benefits: Dark Mode helps reduce eye strain in low-light conditions, increases energy efficiency on OLED and AMOLED screens, and improves accessibility for individuals with light sensitivity.

User Experience:

Dark Mode darkens the entire sheet, including cells, providing a modern look and feel that many users find visually appealing.

Steps to Enable:

  1. Switch Modes: Select the “Switch Modes” button on the View tab.
  2. Office Theme: Ensure the “Black” or “Use system setting” option is selected under the Office Theme in the File > Account settings. If the “Use system settings” option is selected, the Windows theme must also be set to Black.
